Swartfontein Game & Adventure Lodge
The 8000 ha of Swartfontein Game and Adventure Lodge is a private Nature Reserve since 1999. We will do everything to preserve the very fragile ecosystem of the pro- Namib area, to which the Reserve belongs. It is their earns hope and endeavour to transform this beautiful piece of Afrika into a totally ecologically sound environment
The major commitment of the owners, Olaf and Inka Brell , is the preservation of a very fragile eco-system, sharing both mountain and desert characteristics. In fact, one of the major attractions of the Nature Reserve is its diversity of landscapes. From the grassy plains on the central part of the property, to the “koppies” bordering the eastern and southern parts and finally to the harsh, unexplored mountain ranges of the northern area, overlooking the gravel plains and the distant dunes of the Namib.
Olaf and Inka Brell welcome their guests in an old farm house environment , built at the beginning of this century by a German soldier. The guesthouse can accommodate up to 20 guests. Electricity and hot water are available 24 hours a day thanks to energy collected by the solar panels. Wi-Fi is also available at the Lodge.
Water is a luxury in this country. Namibia is an arid country. Our Nature Reserve receives a mean rainfall of between 150 and 250 mm per year. 83% immediately evaporates into the air, 14% is lost through transpiration from plants. 2% runs down the rivers and some into the dams and only 1% enter the soil to replenish the ground water. Water is life, no water no life!
At Swartfontein Game & Adventure Lodge, guests will find a refined and individualised hospitality with special attention given to details. Local dishes with local meats and natural ingredients, as well as a selected choice of South African wines, will transform a stay at Swartfontein in a delightful “gourmet” experience. A selected choice of alcohol beverages, as well as soft drinks can be enjoyed with your meals. On warm nights “braaivleis” or a “bushman fondue” around a campfire will be organised.
Swartfontein Game & Adventure Lodge offers many possibilities of entertainment to its guests: i.e. game drives or sundowner drives with beverages and snacks. Also, photographic safaris, early morning guided bird walks or guided walks. In addition, for the more adventurous ones, walks in the wild camp, hikes to the” koppy” behind the house or in the Spreetshoogte area (whole day), can be organised on request.
English, Afrikaans and German are languages fluently spoken at Swartfontein Game & Adventure Lodge. In any case, the warm welcome and the friendly atmosphere are a universal language fully understood by all guests, who seem to appreciate it very much.
