Swartfontein offers many possibilities of entertainment to its guests: i.e. game drives or sundowner drives with beverages and snacks. Also, photographic safaris, early morning guided bird walks or guided walks. In addition, for the more adventurous ones, walks in the wild camp, hikes to the” koppy” behind the house or in the Spreetshoogte area (whole day), can be organised on request.

Unforgettable game viewing experiences
During these activities, visitors can enjoy the various endemic and exotic game species present on the Nature reserve such as a Red Hartebeest, Ostrich, Burchell’s and Hartmann Zebra, Oryx, Kudu, Springbok, Blue and Black Wildebeest, Chacma Baboon, Leopard, Black Backed Jackal, Caracal, Bat Eared Fox and Honey Badger. The elusive Klipspringer, a highly protected species, can often be seen gracefully jumping from rock to rock against a blue cloudless sky.

To bird lovers, Swartfontein offers the unique experience of watching a pair of Black Eagles nesting on a high cliff, Secretary Bird, Ludwig’s Bustard and Egyptian Geese and many species of ducks can also be frequently seen. Among the endemic birds for which Namibia has an international responsibility, Rüppell’s Korhaan, Rosy-Faced Lovebirds, and White- Tailed Shrike can be spotted in the Reserve. Over 150 different species of birds have been observed on and listed by an expert bird watcher.

Prior arrangements can be made with for day trips to Soussusvlei and Sessriem Canyon, to the Naukluft Mountains, a very scenic drive through the four passes of the area (Spreetshoogte, Gaub, Kuiseb and Gamsberg), a hike in the Spreethoogte mountains in search of the Hartman Zebra. Visitors can also be picked up from and driven back to Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek.
